Reggae musician Joseph “Jo” Mersa Marley, who also happens to be Bob Marley’s grandson and son of Stephen Marley, passed away yesterday, December 27. He was reportedly found unresponsive in a car.

According to sources, he died as a result of asthma-related conditions at the age of 31.

Marley, a Jamaican native who moved to Miami when he was 11 years old, continued his family’s musical tradition by pursuing his own profession.

Prior to relocating to Miami to attend Palmetto High School and Miami Dade College, he attended Saints Peter and Paul Preparatory School.

In addition to the stand-alone song “Burn It Down” with Yohan Marley, he released two EPs in 2014 and 2021, respectively.

Additionally, he had an appearance on Revelation Part 2: The Fruit of Life, the 2016 album by his father Stephen, and Strictly Roots, the 2015 Grammy Award-winning album by Morgan Heritage.
