Most of us fall into one of two camps when it comes to Brussels sprouts: OMG I love them or Ew, they’re so gross. They’re a polarizing vegetable and those who love them know that it’s hard to get the haters on board. But Joanna Gaines may have just stumbled upon a recipe that bridges the gap between the lovers and the haters. It’s a Brussels sprout salad that combines so many delicious flavors that the naysayers won’t even believe they’re eating the thing they said they hate.

“My dad swears he will never eat a Brussels sprout,” Gaines said in a video posted to the Food Network Instagram page. “He got two servings of this. He just thought it was lettuce with a sweet dressing. When I told him it was all Brussels sprouts, he was speechless.” Joanna Gaines Related story Every Mama Will Understand Joanna Gaines' Bittersweet Sentiment About Her Third Kid Turning 16

Think of it like exposure therapy — or hiding broccoli in your kids’ pasta sauce. Your friend or family member won’t know a thing (until you reveal your secret just before dessert).

The salad begins with a base of shredded Brussels sprouts, which you can do by chopping them crosswise and stopping about a half inch from the base. Then you can add in blueberries, toasted almonds, and a vinaigrette made with olive oil, rice vinegar, honey, poppy seeds, salt, and pepper. You could also include a few original toppings like feta cheese, pepitas, or green onion to add a bit more flavor.

Toss everything together and let the salad sit in the refrigerator for up to two hours before serving. This allows the vinaigrette to coat all the ingredients and meld all the flavors together. Then, after sprinkling a bit of chopped chives on top, serve to your friend or family member who is firmly anti-Brussels sprouts and watch them ask for more.
