She was the second child of David Ledecky and Mary Hagan. His father David is a lawyer and his mother Mary Gen is a former collegiate swimmer and hospital administrator. Katie broke the world record in 400 freestyle in won the 200 and 800 freestyle at the U.S. summer nationals. She made an appearance at the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships, where she won 5 gold medals (200 freestyle, 400 freestyle, 800 freestyle, 1500 freestyle, 800 freestyle relay) and became the first female to win four individuals.

The year 2015

The year too continued for her shattering records hither and thither. She competed at the 2015 World Championships in Kazan, Russia. She won 400 freestyle and 1500 freestyle and even set another world record in it. Along with US teammates, she won another gold medal on the 800m free relay. Further, she was victorious in 200 freestyle too.

The year 2016

Katie Ledecky was undoubtedly sure to start in the women’s US swimming team. She won all 200m, 400m, and 800m freestyle in trials for Rio Olympics 2016. In the Olympics, she shattered yet another record in 400m freestyle and won it. She helped her team to win 600 meters in front of Australia.

The year 2017

This year saw her performing at the 2017 FINA World Championships. She won gold in 400m freestyle, 800m, and 1500m freestyle in the competition. She also won first silver in a major international championship in a 200m freestyle battle. The American teams strike gold again together in the 4x200m freestyle relay. Katie Ledecky performed at the 2018 U.S. National Championships and Pan Pacific Championships. She won 800m freestyle and 200m freestyles in national championships. Katie Ledecky performed in the 2019 FINA World Championships. The tournament saw her marking her first loss in the final since 2012 and settling for silver in 400 freestyle. Later in 2021, she participated in the Tokyo Olympics after giving a fine performance in the trial. There she earned silver in the 400m freestyle. She also won silver 4×200 free relay, behind China. Moreover, she won gold in the 800m freestyle final making her the most decorated female swimmer in Olympic history.
