Piyush Chawla is a professional cricketer, who has represented Indian cricket team Internationally. Piyush has represented the Indian team in One Day Internationals and Test cricket. Piyush is a right arm leg spinner and an occasional left handed batsman. Piyush was born on 24 December 1988 in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India. Piyush took his early training in cricket at the Sonakpur Stadium in Moradabad under the national coach Mr. Badruddeen. Piyush Chawla has been a part of Indian teams that won 2007 ICC T20 world cup and 2011 ICC cricket world cup. He started playing for India’s under 19 team in the 2004-05 season against England, where he took 13 wickets in initial 2 Test matches.
In 2005-06 against Australia, Piyush again got the chance to play in the under 19 team. India lost the series of 5 Test matches and Piyush ended up taking 8 wickets. Piyush became part of the India B team in the 2005-06 Challenger trophy. After winning a match against India A, India B played against seniors, where Piyush took the wicket of legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar with a googly. It was for Central Zone, Piyush played his first class debut match against South Zone in Duleep Trophy. Piyush gave an all round performance in his debut match. In the 2006 under 19 world cup finals he took 4 wickets in 8 overs and gave only 8 runs. He also contributed in the batting department as he scored 25 runs as well.

Piyush became the second youngest player after Sachin to play in Test cricket for India. He played his debut match against Australia at Mohali in 2006. Against Bangladesh on 12 May, 2007 he played his One Day International (ODI) debut match. He ended up taking 3 wickets in his first ODI and in the 2nd ODI against Ireland, he again took 3 wickets. Piyush got the chance to play for Sussex in County cricket for a month. In his very first county match, he took a total of 8 wickets and scored 102 runs after coming at 9th number in the batting line up. Piyush returned to the Indian Test team after 4 years against England, where he took 4 wickets in the very first innings of the series.
Piyush returned to county cricket in 2013, and got signed by Somerset. In Indian domestic cricket, Piyush was the highest wicket taking bowler for Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy in 2017-18 season. Also in Vijay Hazare Trophy, Piyush was the highest wicket taking bowler for Gujarat. The first team for whom Piyush played in the Indian Premier League was Kings Eleven Punjab, as they signed him in 2008. In 2014, Piyush was acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders and again in 2018, he was signed by them. For the 2020 IPL season, he was bought by Chennai Super Kings and for 2021 season, Mumbai Indians bought him. Currently Piyush is playing for Mumbai Indians, as he was bought by the franchise in 2023 IPL auctions.
